All 35,000 tickets for the massive concert Genie Fest – 16 Years of Rock sold out within 90 minutes on April 10, exactly a month ahead of the show at Impact Lakeside. Gay Ray has put together a monster line-up to celebrate the 16th anniversary of Genie Records, an affiliate of GMM Grammy. Fourteen rock acts will share the stage: Bodyslam, Big Ass, Paradox, Kala, Nakarin “Pang” Kingsak, Retrospect, Sweet Mullet, No More Tear, Instinct, Klear, Palapol Polgongseng, the Mousses, Cocktail and the Yers.
“At first it was super-hard organising the festival with so many bands because they all have such tight schedules,” says promoter Yuthana “Ted” Boonorm. But he got the job done, and can now promise “a concert party were everybody can share their warm feelings about their favourite artists”.
“It’s about the relationships between the artists and their fans, but this is all one big family for Genie Records.”
Genie executive vice president Wichian Rerkpaisarn expresses thanks to the ticket buyers, along with consolations for the fans who missed out in the rush. “This festival is also based on a dream, belief and truth,” he says.
There’ll be no long waits between acts taking the stage since three mobile platforms loaded with the next bands’ gear will be ready to roll out. “It will be a six-hour, non-stop show and every band will be playing their hits,” says Ted.
The gates open at 1pm, giving fans three hours before the music starts to chill out, browse the souvenir booths and see if they can snag some of the performers’ pictures and autographs. There’ll be a huge “Genie Wall” to serve as a backdrop for photos as well.
