Despite the win, KSEB are likely to play a rematch with VAS in the classification round for 9th-10th places this Thursday. Today, KSEB and VAS take on China’s Bohai Bank Tianjin and PLDT of the Philippines respectively in their last group round-robin preliminary match. Only the top four teams from each pool advance and if the Indian and the Singaporean teams happen to lose their matches today, both sides will finish 5th and 6th in their pool and have to fight for the 9th place.
Earlier, Kazakhstan’s Zhetyssu brushed off PLDT of the Philippines 25-21 25-13 25-21. In the last match of the day, hosts Nakhonratchasima were scheduled to take on Vietnam’s Thong Tin Lienvietpostbank, the team which stunned Thailand League champions Idea Khonkaen 3-2 in the Asian Club meet in Vietnam last year.
Meanwhile, four-time champions Bohai Bank Tianjin, runners-up in the China Volleyball League, struggled in their match against Taipei. The Chinese team conceded the hard-fought first game 26-24. Powerful Chen Liyi put up an inspired performance to rally Tianjin into the game.
At press time, Tianjin took a commanding 2-1 lead and needed just one more game to win the match.
