The saga of Newin Chidchob's boxing-ring justice would never have materialised had the police been doing their job properly. Of course, this being Thailand, that eventuality is like wishing for snow on Bangkok streets.
No, it isn’t fair to force brawling teenagers to fight professional boxers. But since when have any ideas from politicians been fair? Newin was just doing what comes naturally. What I would really have liked to see was Newin fighting those brawling kids himself. Now that would be a match worth watching and discussing – next Songkran, maybe? Of course, I am pretty sick-minded myself, being a product of Thailand’s messed-up society.
