Memories of a summer day

Jaspal brings hot young designer Jonathan Saunders into its fold as it celebrates a new collection

Young Scottish designer Jonathan Saunders brings his talent as well as his unique prints to Bangkok with the launch of Jaspal’s crisp summer collection.
The outfits and separates were showcased at a recent fashion show at the brand’s Siam Center store in front of a host of celebrities including MR Mannarumas Yugala, Orn-apa Poonsapmanee, Phitsinee Tanwiboon, Sonya Singha, Chermarn “Ploy” Boonyasak and Cris Horwang
Models sashayed along the catwalk in elegant and sleek outfits in warm tones like red to cool tones such as cornflower blue, with each garment boasting a specifically designed print courtesy of Saunder’s traditional silk-screening techniques.
The Glasgow-born print designer, who has dressed Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Sienna Miller and US First Lady Michelle Obama, earned his MA at the prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. His graduate collection, which featured a series of brightly printed chiffon kaftans inspired by the Beatles’ “Yellow Submarine” album cover, won him the 2002 Lancome Colour Award.
He has worked for Alexander McQueen and served as a consultant to Chloe and Pucci under the direction of Christian Lacroix.
Today, in addition to designing for his own label, Saunders is creative director of Milan-based fashion house Pollini and has designed ranges for retail chains Target and Topshop.
For Jaspal, he’s offering 26 pieces including hot and sporty boxer briefs that allow for endless mix and matching with colours and prints that connect each outfit.
Short full skirts and pretty dresses are combined with bomber jackets and luxury sweatshirts in mint green, orange, pink, red and dark blue.
Cotton and light chiffon and textured fabrics including canvas are printed with motifs inspired by Op art and florals, especially ideal for spring and summer.
Quality leather bags and shoes, as well as accessories complete the look.
