French footwear brand Palladium brings its super comfy boots and shoes to town

Founded in 1920 to make tyres for the fledgling aviation industry, French footwear brand Palladium recently arrived in Bangkok to bring solace to sore feet with boots and oxford shoes boasting a flexible outsole made from the same vulcanised rubber that’s used in aeroplane tyres.
In the shoe business since just after the Second World War, Palladium’s first Thai store is on the third floor of Siam Discovery and operated by Orasasintavee, distributor of street fashion brands Outdoor and Underground.
“We’ve actually been working with Palladium since 2011 and selling its footwear through Yeah, our multi-brand store. It’s proved so popular that we decided to open a stop where customers can come to check out all editions of their favourite footwear,” says marketing director Theeraphat Phetphukhieo.
“Part of the reason the shoes are so popular is that the vulcanised rubber soles make them comfortable, flexible and long-lasting.”
All Palladium’s shoes are designed for walking with some serving as good footwear for trekking, as they’re resistant to snow, water and rocky paths. They’re available in three patterns: Hampa Hi (boot), Baggy (fold-over low boot) and oxfords with the uppers coming in canvas, suede, leather, buckskin, nylon and polyester.
Young wearers will love the canvas boots that come in yellow, green, red, orange, blue, purple and pink while more professional types will prefer the oxfords in black, navy, white and brown. There’s trendy gear too as Palladium has collaborated with well-known fashion brands for its special editions, which include the Richard Chai Strap Tactical and High leather boots with uppers featuring premium-grade aniline leather construction accented with bold Velcro strap closures.
Billionaire Boys Club Pampa Hi and Baggy boots, created in partnership with Japanese streetwear designer Sk8thing, have a cool camouflage-print and leather uppers with rubber toe caps and cushioned sock liners. Not in Bangkok yet but scheduled to arrive soon are the Atmos Pampa Hi boots with an outsole that can gleam in the dark and canvas uppers in a combination of paint splatter and black tie-dye prints.
For walking around town, the 250-gram Pampa Hi Light boots with cotton canvas uppers in pink and bright blue are ideal. Prices range from Bt2,790 to Bt7,990.
“We’ve supplied footwear for Bodyslam, Boy Peacemaker and Noom Kala and they’ve helped us in introducing Palladium to the local market,” Theeraphat says.
