Triumphant return

Widely missed amid the bombardment of coup announcements was the news that actress Araya "Chompoo" A Hargate was back on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival last week

It was her “second annual” visit to the cinema extravaganza, but the word only made it as far as the social media.
Like last year, Chompoo was there as the brand ambassador for l’Oreal Thailand, whose French parent firm co-sponsors the festival. Now an experienced hand, she seemed more comfortable posing for photographers on the red plush. She wore a glittering dress that fashion websites and bloggers lapped up.
“With black being the standout colour of this festival, the Thai l’Oreal ambassador offered up breathtaking radiance, wearing a fully sequinned Kaufmanfranco strapless look,” gushed one online commentator.
“I love the fitted bodice, the elegant silhouette and the timeless feel of the look, but on this rare occasion I will advocate the use of platform heels, as she needed just an inch or two more to pull off this length.
“Araya opted for kohl-rimmed eyes, red lips and a black clutch to complete the ensemble.”
Before heading to France, Chompoo said on the Channel 3 “3Zapp” show she co-hosts that she was well prepared. “I’m taking 10 dinner dresses and shoes to match them all!” She was pleased to be feeling far less pressure this time. “Last year I was so excited and I couldn’t imagine what it would be like. This year I can picture it perfectly, although I’m still excited.”
With regular TV back, tune into “3Zapp” on Wednesday at 11pm for Chompoo’s full report on Cannes 2014 – if not this week, then probably next.

A toast to Num and Patida and their “coup baby”

CELEBRITY WEDDINGS are always big news, but that of Kanchai “Num” Kamnerdploy and May Fueng-arom (who’s changed her first name to Patida on fortune-teller’s orders) has the distinction of being the first one announced under martial law – at least in recent memory.
Num and Patida revealed last Wednesday that they’d actually become husband and wife way back in December 2012, meaning there’s been a lot of unnecessary gossip since then about them not being married. The real announcement on Wednesday was that Patida is three months pregnant, and the reason they picked that day to share the news is that it was also her birthday.
In fact there was a rumour going around at the end of 2012 that they’d married, but they kept mum about it, as did close friends like Patida’s best pal, Patcharapha “Aum” Chaicheu, who attended last week’s press conference. Num singled Aum out for special thanks for her support.
“We did register our marriage and had a reception with about 50 guests,” he said. “But not even some of our friends in the entertainment industry knew we were married.” Patida noted that their wedding on December 11, 2012, was the culmination of a 15-year relationship, but they kept it secret because a fortune-teller told them to, warning them that they weren’t exactly compatible.
The couple might have another wedding now that they’ve gone public and, “perhaps I’ll have my child in the ceremony too!” Patida beamed. They did indeed go off on a honeymoon as well, to Macau, and made wishes for the future. Patida was asked what she wished for. To have a healthy baby, of course!
