Foxy Lady breaks hearts on day two

Tricky winds greeted the sailors on the second day of the Samui Regatta yesterday, prompting organisers to postpone the early start.

But within an hour the breeze was filling in and the fleet was off. All eyes were on Foxy Lady VI, which after two wins on the first day was looking to extend its lead and build up a cushion.
Windsikher, from Singapore and skippered by Sarab Singh, was fastest off the mark and crossed the finish line first to take line honours by 23 seconds. But with the handicap applied, it was second-place Foxy Lady VI that was announced the winner on corrected time by just under a minute. The victory not only boosted its chances of victory in the IRC One class but also in the overall Asian Yachting Grand Prix championship.
As the winds started to drop, Chisholm chose to shorten course and both Foxy Lady VI and Windsikher read the tricky winds best. A further six minutes back was Jessandra II in third place.
While Foxy Lady VI was extending its lead in IRC One, the shifting winds produced a new winner in IRC Zero.
Oi!, manned by an Australian crew lead by Peter Ahern, after a slow start on the first day, read the tricky winds best and won the only race of the day. A clear six minutes separated Oi! from second-place Sam Chan’s Freefire 52 from Hong Kong. Two minutes further back was Ben Copley’s Katsu, who as the smallest in the class sailed a strong race to add another third place to its series tally and remain in contention for the podium.
The premier and cruising boats in IRC Two struggled in the light winds. Organisers had no choice but to cancel the race and call it a day for all classes.
Racing continues today at Centara Grand Beach Resort Samui, off Chaweng Beach.
