Police United miss deadline to register Ferdinand

Former Queen Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand will not be able to play for his new club Police United in the upcoming second leg of Thai Premier League, as the Thai side missed Sunday's deadline to register the player.

Police president Samrit Bunditkitsada said the 29-year-old Englishman, who was unveiled as the club’s marquee signing before the press a few weeks ago, would not be able to represent the side in the second half of the domestic season.

“I want to apologise to fans, as Ferdinand will not be tightening up our defence. We could not complete all the documents needed for his transfer. However, he’ll definitely stay with us and train with the team,” said the 39-year-old Samrit.
Ferdinand’s ineligibility is a big blow for the club, who are currently languishing in 14th spot of the 20-team league, one place above the relegation zone. The five bottom teams will be relegated to the second-tier Division One this season.
