Gibson to offer skills and knowledge to basketball players
Taj Gibson of the Chicago Bulls will be in Bangkok next week to participate in the Junior NBA Thailand 2014 National Training Camp.
Gibson will coach participants from all over the country vying to become Junior NBA Thailand All-Stars. The National Training Camp, presented by Foremost, will be held at the New International School of Thailand from August 1-3 following the Selection Camp that runs from July 26-27 at the same venue. Free registration for the Selection Camp is now open through the official event website www.jrnba.asia/thailand.
“I look forward to offering my skills and knowledge to help mould the brightest basketball talent Thailand has to offer,” said Gibson. “Coaches value players that bring energy, and I hope that the Jr NBA participants bring the same drive and passion I compete with when they look to book their spots at the National Training Camp.”
Gibson, a 6’9” forward out of the University of Southern California, was selected 26th overall by the Chicago Bulls in the 2009 NBA Draft and finished second in the 2013-14 Sixth Man of the Year voting, averaging 13 points per game, 6.8 rebounds per game and 1.4 blocks per game. The sixth-year player will join Jr NBA coaches to help run the National Training Camp and conduct an NBA Cares activity in Bangkok.
A total of 40 boys and 24 girls from the Selection Camp will advance to the National Training camp in August. The National Training Camp, the culmination of the Jr NBA Thailand 2014 presented by Foremost programme, will provide the top participants the opportunity to train with and compete against their peers. These standout campers will have the opportunity to join a unique NBA experience trip and play against a counterpart team from another country later in the year.
In addition to Thailand, Jr NBA also launched for the very first time in Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia earlier in the year. The programme is free and open to players between 5 and 14 years old. Players between the ages of 10 to 14 will be eligible for top selection and qualify for the NBA experience trip. In addition to presenting partner Foremost, Spalding will serve as the supporting partner of Jr NBA Thailand. TrueVisions is the Official Broadcaster of the NBA and will provide media coverage and promotion of the event.
