Designer Anisha Attaskulchai, founder and owner of Lovebird, has long maintained that women are at their most beautiful when they are in love.
Her new collection for autumn and winter 2014 dubbed “Silent Roar” underscores that beauty by comparing feminine sensuality to a snow leopard (Panthera uncia), a feline native to the cold regions of Central Asia that is as graceful as it is captivating. It is also one of the few large cats not to roar, instead issuing hisses, mews and wails.
“I love the cat’s tail,” she says. “The long tail is so big and fluffy yet also very mysterious. It looks like a coloured paintbrush, adding a vibrant contrast to the black-and-white creature.”
Those colours translate into the collection’s key prints, which feature on Lady Leopard tops worn with Coldness Helm pants as well as Uncia Uncia tops paired with Clacier Unicia pants.
“Moussy Leopard top is my favourite due to its open-shoulder and coquettish style. The trousers also highlight a woman’s shape. They make her looks tall and small.”
The tailoring techniques retain Lovebird’s precision and classic styles. Silhouettes and moods focus on flowing cotton chiffon, matched with sexy fitted leather pants and high-waist cotton spandex pants with prints. The prints are inspired by the texture of the snow leopard’s fur, blended with the colours of snow-covered mountains and the winter sky. The colour palette also includes warm hues like peach, brown and violet. Another highlight is the use of gems on the prints, inspired by the fascinating eyes of the snow leopard.
Accessories hint at art deco style, depicting the rocks of the snowy mountains on the dangling earrings and bangles. Thigh-high gladiator boots add sensual charm to the legs, while platform heels with snow leopard prints lend a more casual feel.
