The Spaniard was hit with a lengthy ban for improper conduct after he hit a water bottle at the direction of a referee in Buriram’s 2-1 win at Thai Premier League rivals Rachaburi in the League Cup semi-final second leg at the end of July. The suspension was to last until the end of season.
Buriram then took the matter to the administrative court, seeking an injunction against the Spaniard’s suspension while the club also sued five defendants including the Thai FA for Bt20 million for damaging its reputation.
However, the FAT president Worawi Makudi and the Thai FA lawyer worked out a compromise with Buriram yesterday, agreeing to slash Gonzalez’s ban to only seven matches.
With the Spaniard already served his suspension in six games, it meant the 31-year-old has only one match left. The remaining game he needed to serve suspension, though, is the League Cup final against BEC Tero Sasana on October 12.
