Motif's collection of sofas, chairs, dining tables and more turn every home into a bastion of sheer elegance

MULTI-BRAND LUXURY furniture and lighting store Motif is turning 10 this year and it’s celebrating the event by opening a branch at the upmarket Central Embassy mall and turning over part of the showroom space to products by Fendi Casa and Element, for which it is Thailand’s only distributor.
Owned by Akarat Vanarat and his pals, Motif was born in 2004 in a small space on Wireless Road but grew so fast that it was soon forced to move to a larger area at the Erawan, one of the most luxurious boutique shopping arcades in Asia.
The new Central Embassy store, designed on the concept of casual elegance, occupies 920 square metres and stocks a wide range of premium contemporary furniture, home decor items and lighting from more than 40 world-class brands.
“Our focus, as always, is on the very best contemporary furniture that will look great in any household as the colours – grey, beige and brown – are neutral. At the Central Embassy branch, we have both indoor and outdoor furniture, lighting and home accessories including items by top Italian brand Lema, which is famous for its walk-in closets,” Akarat says.
The shop is divided into three zones and boasts a 200sqm “shop-in-shop” dedicated to Fendi Casa. That space is done up as a dining room furnished with top-quality tables, solid-wood chairs and leather stools. Fendi’s fashion line is also given pride of place and demonstrates how the iconic Spy Bag has inspired the chests of drawers in the Canova collection.
Element also occupies its own
space, which is decorated in an English library theme and features comfortable sofas and armchairs in several designs and materials as well as exquisite home furnishings like iconic English trunks.
“We’re the sole distributor of Fendi Casa in Thailand. Fendi Casa’s new design director is Vietnamese so customers can expect to see some very contemporary details coming up,” Akarat says.
The rest of the store is dedicated to a mix of lanterns, chandeliers, leather sofas, armchairs, chairs, side tables and decorative items from Tom Dixon, Penta, Italamp, Casina, Gamma and Moooi.
Highlights include the Hope chandelier by Luceplen – a series of thin polycarbonate Fresnel lenses, created using imprinted microprisms on polycarbonate film to achieve a dioptric effect similar to glass and fabulous curtains and fabric upholstery with graphic motifs by Hermes.
