Creeping hideously along like Ebola, the "break-up by Facebook" of rock star Seksan "Sek Loso" Sukpimai's marriage to "Karn" Wiphakorn has reached the cliff edge and they're staring into the abyss of divorce.

Sek continues to keep his fans and followers informed on the social network, setting yesterday as the deadline for Karn to sign the divorce papers. “If she doesn’t turn up, I’ll file a lawsuit,” he said. She didn’t, so his next update was, “Coming to Bang Khen district office for a divorce,” complete with a snapshot of him arriving at the municipal headquarters. And his isn’t the only lawsuit pending.
Trivial gossip, you might maintain, but we do have the spectacle of a high-ranking phuyai at the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security pulling ropes of mighty influence to persuade TV chat-show host Vuthithorn “Woody” Milintachinda to drop plans for an interview with the bickering couple. It would only make things worse for them, Woody was told.
The interview had been scheduled for “Woody Talk” on Sunday, but Woody “compromised” with the government and posted the already taped episode on YouTube. We are not quite sure how that helped, since probably even more people will watch it online.
The ministry perhaps just wanted to quieten Sek down a bit – he’s interfering with the country’s happiness, after all – but the guy was a busy beaver all weekend. He had the press over to his house when former Miss Universe Natalie Glebova came by to record a song with him. Facebook was padded further with a slew of photos of them in his home studio and out front of the house.
Sek boasted about the number of reporters who showed up, “excited” about his new album, evidently failing to realise they were there for ruckus, not recordings, for the scandal, not the vinyl.
Some of Sek’s fans got carried away, labelling Natalie his new crush. (Their song is called “Way Back into Love”.) His critics said she was silly to work with him. But he said he had her lined up for an appearance at his concert on November 2.
No, he doesn’t. Natalie announced yesterday that she wouldn’t be working with Sek anymore. She’d obviously been apprised of the mess he’s in and must be particularly miffed about gossip that she broke up his marriage. She told the press they’d met at a beauty pageant (not the one she won).
He’d asked her to sing at his show and she’d agreed without knowing about his marital difficulties. She doesn’t read the Thai-language newspapers, doesn’t follow him on Facebook and, most incredibly of all, doesn’t stay on top of world affairs by reading Soopsip.
With her boyfriend, Dean Kelly Jr, at her side, Natalie said she’d cancelled all plans with Sek, including the music video they were going to shoot on Koh Si Chang next weekend. She said Sek “understood” her decision. So does Karn, who praised the beauty queen on Facebook: “You have a good heart and you are my angel. Your beauty is more than skin deep and you are smart not to be used like I was.”
We await further comment from Sek. He’s probably got his response on a slow boil.
