To the NACC: justice must be seen to be done

A press conference held by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) on its 8th anniversary on October 21 provided data on its performance up to the present.

NACC chairman Parnthep Klanarongran said “the NACC has handled a total of 34,528 corruption cases since its inception. Of these, 25,012 cases have been closed, while 9,516 are still under investigation.”
What do these figures mean?
How many of the 25,012 cases “closed” were followed by prosecutions, with those found guilty of serious offences sent to prison and their stolen wealth taken from them by heavy fines and asset seizures, followed by media reports of the trials and penalties?
Such prison sentences, wealth loss and publicity would remove the incentives for corruption by others. But has this been the case?
Can the NACC please provide more information on “the 25,012 cases closed”.
