As a tourist, I was greatly offended by your editorial cartoon of October 23.
It shows a blonde Western tourist in a bikini screaming at a grumpy-looking soldier in a tank whose shadow is blocking her from getting a decent suntan.
A caption announces, “C’mon, Western tourists do not care how much democracy there is in the country they visit so long as it’s very sunny and beaches are beautiful.”
Your Mr Stephff should be informed that not all tourists are so shallow, self-centred, and superficial. We don’t come here just for the sun and the beaches. Some of us are deeply spiritual, profoundly committed to the most lofty aspects of Asian culture. We come here for the nightlife and the shopping.
I hope that next time Mr Stephff will think twice before penning such a vicious and hurtful indictment of your major source of revenue.
