Revenge or reform?

The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) last week voted to proceed with the impeachment of former Senate speaker Nikom Wairatpanij and former House speaker Somsak Kiatsuranont, for spearheading the passage of a bill to change the make-up of the Senate lat

The NLA is scheduled to debate the issue on November 27. Another impeachment case, against former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra for her alleged mishandling of her government’s rice-pledging scheme, is due to be heard on November 28. Already, there are opposing opinions being voiced on these two cases.
It looks like Thailand has reached a crossroads where it has to decide whether to kill the “small fish” and leave the big one alive, or vice versa. If revenge takes precedent in making this decision, reform may not happen in this country – yet again.
Which of these two paths will the country take? We will know soon enough.
