The fact is that a few well-chosen scholars would be enough to do the job, but if everyone wants a large committee, well then that is fine also. You see, the previous charter was strong, except in the area of how representatives are elected and how the government is structured. Whoever makes up the committee, if they do not change the charter to require that all government representatives have to be elected, including the prime minister, and that anyone with the proper education may run for office, then we will go back to exactly the way things were before Thaksin Shinawatra arrived on the scene.
Regardless of who drafts the new constitution, if we don’t see those changes, we know how it will all end up. And I can further assure you that how it will be done has already been decided. Let’s just patiently wait for the outcome. Only then will we know what this entire changeover was all about. Was it for a better Thailand, or was it to return to the peaceful, elite, establishment-controlled ways of the pre-Thaksin era?
