Sound surround for your smartphone

A new model of wireless headphones that double as a smartphone headset, the Arken Bluetooth Stereo Headphones H2A pump out a powerful bass.

The H2A supports Bluetooth 4.0 and all major Bluetooth profiles, including A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) 1.2 and AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile) 1.4.

Its 40mm dynamic drivers have frequency response of 80-20,000 Hz. The headphones have an impedance of 32 ohms and high sound-pressure level sensitivity of 108 dB while the signal to noise ratio is 90 dB.

The headphones are powered by a 195 mAh Li-ion polymer battery with a playback time of about 12 hours per one charge. Count on three hours for the charge, which is done via a microUSB port.

The on-ear headphones boast a compact body and are pleasingly lightweight at just 130 grammes.

The built-in microphone means they can double as headset for a smartphone. The play/pause button can be found on the right side of the headband near the right ear cup and can also be used to answer and end a call. There are four arrows around the button to increase and decrease volume and when the phones are used with iPhone, iPod or iPad, they also work to skip tracks forward and backwards.

I tested the phone with an iPad and found the control buttons efficient.

The H2A has very powerful bass so I used them to listen to my favourite AC/DC album. The bass drum and the bass guitar boomed out satisfactorily.

I also listened to “The Best of Sting” and The Eagles’ “Hotel California” and was pleased with the quality of the sound. 

The package comes with a 1.2-metre USB charge cable and a user manual.
