I read about a British woman who claimed that drinking six bottles of water every day took 10 years off her face. Would that work on the lines between my brows too?
Water is crucial for your health and beauty, but if you already drink enough water, drinking more probably won’t help much.
When it comes to ageing signs, there are many culprits – diet, stress, genetics, lifestyle, skincare routine, various bad habits and your age itself. Whether drinking more water will help take years off your face depends on whether you’re dehydrated. If you don’t drink much, the skin does age faster due to insufficient hydration. In that case, drinking more water can indeed help.
The areas of the body that work hard tend to get older faster. If you frown a lot, you’re likely to develop lines between the brows. Frowning doesn’t only occur when you’re stressed. When we squint in bright light or stare at the computer screen, we also frown.
One of the easiest and most effective ways to treat lines between the brows is botulinum toxin. Since the lines are caused by overuse of the muscles, botulinum toxin treats the root cause by temporarily freezing the area, restricting the movement. When the muscles are more relaxed, lines are less visible.
While lines and wrinkles are natural, it doesn’t mean you should surrender and live with them. Removing frown lines not only makes you look younger but also happier. The lines, especially deep ones, make you look angry or moody all the time. Naturally someone with a happy face is more popular than people who look stressed all the time.
However, injecting botulinum toxin to treat lines between eyebrows requires a lot of skills. There are many muscles in that area, each with its own task. For example, orbicularis oculi closes the eyelids. Frontalis, the forehead muscle, lifts the brows. The corrugator draws the eyebrow downward, so it’s responsible for the vertical wrinkles on the forehead. The procerus, which helps pull down the skin between the brows, creates the horizontal lines there. The list goes on and on.
If the person performing the injection lacks solid knowledge about these muscles, the results can be unsatisfactory – possibly an unnatural expression, lumps, or asymmetric facial features.
Another option is a hyaluronic acid injection to increase the skin’s ability to retain moisture. It helps replace the acid found naturally in the skin but often lost, and restores skin plumpness, firmness and suppleness. When injected, the acid absorbs water and holds it in place, thus reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. It also gives your skin that youthful, dewy look that makes you appear a decade younger.
Back to the question about drinking water: Drinking a lot of water, in appropriate amounts, is great. There is no harm in hydrating your body. But drinking too much water can be harmful to your health. Let your thirst be your guide.
