The idea proposed by some members of the National Reform Council that national leaders be elected directly by the people is dangerous and should be discarded by the Constitution Drafting Committee. Why?
Directly elected national leaders are possible only in countries that have presidents as heads of state. In Thailand, we have His Majesty the King as our head of state.
I would suggest that, in order to save time and increase efficiency of the constitution-drafting process, the CDC should first set up ground rules on which proposals should be forbidden.
Only that way can we have a decent and practical constitution in use, and in proper time.
