Chinese tourists need guidance in Thailand

Re: "Chinese barbarians at the boarding gate", Editorial, December 18.

It is good to see that the Chinese government, together with China’s media and online community, are working in tandem to bring order and to instil acceptable manners among Chinese tourists visiting foreign countries.
However, there are more problems than meet the eye here.
In Chiang Mai, hotel and restaurant operators are complaining that Chinese tourists tend to make as much unnecessary noise as their small children they bring along.
Chinese visitors are often seen jumping from footpaths unannounced onto busy streets. Some walk backwards into the middle of the street, unmindful of onrushing traffic, just to get a better view for their cameras.
Such behaviour has caused fatal accidents in Chiang Mai.
Therefore, I suggest that tour companies and guides be made responsible for giving proper information to tourists on how they should behave in each destination that they visit, so that problems will be minimised.
