I agree with the proposal to give poor families a subsidy of Bt600 per month for infants to six-year-olds.
This would help ensure that poor children will not be left behind in terms of education and career opportunities in future.
However, the government should also help the children of the working class, or those of the middle-income group in a different way – to make sure parents will not become too dependent on the government unnecessarily.
For the better-off families, the government should give as reward Bt600 per month for those who can save for their child the same amount monthly – to be picked up when the child is at least 15 years old.
Don’t think of just helping needy people: think about helping them help themselves too.
