Until more citizens get online, 'digital economy' will be a joke

Re: "Digital economy bills 'need to be amended'", News, January 19.

I am somewhat amused by the headline and the proposed laws in controlling Thailand’s digital world.
The Internet was accessible to only 29 per cent of the population in 2013.
According to World Bank data, as reported by the Washington Post, Thailand is one of the countries least connected to the Internet. Even Iran (31 per cent), Nigeria (38) and China (46) rank higher. This is typical of Thailand in putting the cart before the horse.
Why don’t we try to improve the facilities first?
Your previous supplement “The Digital Wave – Thailand’s economic transformation” was far more relevant to our immediate need in pursuing the deputy premier MR Pridiyathorn Devakula’s ambition in converting Thailand to “digital economy”.
