US risks being used as a pawn in Thai politics

The US Department of State, in its criticism of the 2014 military coup and its call for Thailand to quickly return to an electoral democratic process, risks being used by one side of Thailand's political divide to stoke up more trouble and cause even more

Peace-loving Thais do not feel that the coup, or the martial law now in place, have obstructed their normal daily lives in any way.
Only the political rogues who plundered and terrorised their country prior to the coup are clamouring for an early election – so that they can continue to cheat and plunder as before.
Thailand needs time to put its house in order, after all the troubles it experienced over the past decade as a result of corruption and money politics.
The more trouble that comes from roguish elements interfering with reform, the longer the wait will be for all of us.
