VALENTINE’S DAY comes round again this Saturday and with it comes a new home decor collection that is guaranteed to turn any home into a dreamy sanctuary with classic colours that suit both masculine and feminine tastes.
Him+Her colour by Dulux is one of the five key trends introduced in ColourFutures, Dulux Trade’s annual guide which outlines colour predictions for the year ahead and is based upon research conducted by experts from around the globe and produced in conjunction with AkzoNobel’s Global Aesthetic Centre.
Copper Orange has been chosen as the Colour of the Year 2015, replacing the cool blues and greens of recent years. With its spectrum of pinks, reds and oranges, the colour combines perfectly with pinks, neutrals, whites and other orange hues, as well as metallic colours such as gold.
Inspired by both intellectual and outdoor hobbies, the His+Her colour palette, which compliments the colour of the year, presents combinations of masculine and feminine characteristics underlining calmness, strength and sensitivity.
Simplicity can be achieved by using less furniture with dark and light colours as a key point. This trend combines two different colour tones, ones that represent femininity such as damson, powder pink and cream with masculine colours of khaki, slate grey and teal. Using colour tones in this range also creates classic styles and presents strong personalities.
You can embrace this trend in the bedroom, workspace, living room or kitchen. Painting the walls dark blue and slate grey and adding black leather chairs and dark furniture gives a sense of calm that is perfect for any male space. Women wanting something softer can decorate in cream and powder pink. A multicoloured wall creates space and simple light-coloured furniture brings a touch of modernity.
Bold couples can combine dark and soft colours by painting a wall in a dark colour and using light coloured furniture such as simple wooden chairs and cream lamps to soften the colour of the wall. This style creates modernity and is a great choice for a dining room or living room.
