A NEW VIDEO-ON-DEMAND service that delivers good-quality Full HD movies to your home via the Internet, PrimeTime, a service offered by PrimeTime Entertainment and Primetime Solution, can be accessed by an Android or iOS app, an Internet browser or smart TV.
According to the company’s chief executive Kasidit Kolasastraseni, subscribers will be able access more than 1,000 blockbusters and some 2,000 TV series episodes each year. All programmes are licensed content from leading contributors including Walt Disney, Warner Bros, 20th Century Fox, Paramount, NBC Universal and Sony Pictures.
The service is available in several types of packages. The TV Series Buffet starts at Bt299 per month, the Movie Buffet comes in at Bt199 per month and the Combo Buffet as well as the Movie Buffet plus two new movie rental tickets also start at Bt299. Rental tickets for new movies are available at Bt100 each and Bt300 for four.
You can watch each rented movie for 48 hours before access expires. PrimeTime’s new movies are defined as those that have exited movie theatres three or four months earlier.
For example, the new movies for March include “Big Hero 6”, “Boyhood”, “Lucy”, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “Guardians of the Galaxy”.
At least 3 Mbps Internet connection is needed to use the video-on-demand service. The movies are available in Full-HD resolution of 1920 x 1080p and with DTS 5.1 surround-sound with both Thai and soundtrack audio as well as English and Thai subtitles. HeadphoneX sound technology generates virtual surround sound when you watch the movies using headphones.
PrimeTime says it manages to stream Full-HD movies with DTS 5.1 sounds thanks to the H264Codec algorithm that compresses the films and allows them to be streamed fast and smoothly.
With both iOS and Android apps on offer, you can also watch the movies on your smartphone, tablet computer or an iPad. Should you prefer to watch a big-screen LCD TV, simply link a notebook computer with an HDMI port to your TV and play the PrimeTime movies on your notebook. It’s also possible to access the movie with the browser of a smart TV.
The PrimeTime system allows you to register up to three devices for each account. If you want to use a new device, you must delete old devices from the list first.
You can register for a PrimeTime account either by email or through Facebook. You then enter the code from the package card you have bought by using the “Redeem Code” option.
I tested the service using my notebook computer with an HDMI port and linking it to an LG 55-inch OLED TV and was impressed with the quality.
When I played it on the notebook using a browser, PrimeTime required me to allow a pop-up window with controls that would |let me change audio settings and subtitle choices.
The controls also had an option for playing the movie in full screen. Once I clicked on this option, the movie frame fitted the |55-inch TV perfectly.
The movies I watched were impressively sharp and clean and “Guardians of the Galaxy” played smoothly without disruption. In “Big Hero 6”, however, the movie paused on a few occasions though it was impossible to tell if this was due to my Internet connection or the busy PrimeTime server.
And because it’s a video-on-demand service, pausing and replaying is a breeze.
PrimeTime is currently offering a Combo Movie Buffet and TV Series Buffet package for three months plus six new movie rental tickets for Bt1,497. The codes can be purchased at DNA, Comseven’s iStudio, iBeat, and Banana IT shops.
