It's not like Hong Kong actress Michelle Yim Wai-ling - who was famous in Thailand in the late 1970s and '80s as Mi Xue - was chosen to "co-star" opposite much younger Thai actress Urassaya "Yaya" Sperbund in a TV commercial as part of a "before and after

In fact Mi Xue, 59, is no doubt flattered by the public response to the advance photos from the ad shoot for a Brands bird-nest drink, because people have compared her quite favourably to 22-year-old TV star Yaya. It’s clear that time has been kind to Mi Xue.
She was one of the most popular actresses in Thailand in her day and decades later is still fondly remembered and widely admired here, complete with a fan club. Once in a while you catch a snippet of news about her in the Thai press, and it’s usually about how great she still looks.
Yaya will have missed seeing Mi Xue at the peak of her acting career, when every Thai family was glued to the TV screen for her Hong Kong-made series. Yaya says her mum got pretty excited when she heard that her daughter would be working with Mi Xue. “I just saw her recently in ‘The Legend of Condor Heroes’, and it was really good!” Yaya tells ASTV Manager.
Yaya, who’s been representing Brands since last year, says Mi Xue doesn’t speak English (or Thai), but they had a great time shooting the ad. “She hasn’t changed a bit and her body is perfect. She’s a good example of someone who takes really good care of her health.”
Yaya’s “education” about just how big a star Mi Xue is continued as the chatter spread across the social media. And she’s ended up feeling flattered too at having had the chance to work with such an international celebrity. “I enjoyed every minute!” she says.

Nothing to sniff at
The world’s underwear thieves have to come up with a fresh excuse now that a man in Indonesia – arrested for allegedly stealing countless pairs of panties from neighbours’ laundry lines over the years – attempted in his defence to claim they ward off evil spirits. The cops didn’t buy it.
The Jakarta Post says the 42-year-old panty pilferer, whom police identified only as “CG” (we’re guessing Creepy Guy), was arrested last week after being caught silk-handed by the husband of the lady whose dainties he was removing from her washing line – and before they’d even properly dried!
The bloke’s arrest was probably the best thing that could happen because, before the cops got there, half the neighbourhood had assembled to give him a pummelling.
A local police inspector says that, under heavy grilling, the thief explained that he’s an “ascetic” and is quite convinced that women’s undergarments magically protect him from evil spirits. So it was off to the psychiatric ward with him. “He doesn’t seem mentally sound,” the officer confided.
Meanwhile the husband’s a big hero, relating that he’d heard about nighttime panty raids in the area and was deliberately keeping an eye on the laundry line. That must have been fun. However, the police are holding onto the stolen panties as evidence, nudge-nudge, wink-wink.
