Police reform: now or never

I agree with Prasarn Marukaphitak, National Reform Council member, that "Police reform: it's now or never." Khun Prasarn is rightfully concerned that the NRC is postponing police reform.

Public surveys regularly report that the police are one of the most highly corrupt public agencies, yet PM Prayut assiduously avoids cleansing the force. Eleven months after taking power by force, Prayut has charged only one rogue top cop and his cohorts; are all the other commanders squeaky-clean? He now has absolute power; if not now, when?

The legions of PDRC leaders and followers who were against corruption should peacefully exert sustained pressure on Prayut to review, update and implement the recommendations of the Pol Gen Vasit Dejunkhunjon Commission, eg, boosting police compensation for lower ranks, and making station activities more autonomous, problem-focused, and community-oriented.
What will you, dear reader, give to your children: cops who will protect them – or steal from them?
