Advantages of financial media vs mainstream

There are two major types of news reporting, and never the twain shall meet – mainstream news media versus economic /financial news media.
For example, respected financial analysts warned of the sub-prime loan and mortgage crisis as early as 2005, yet it took the mainstream news audience until 2008 to get the message, when the crisis had already become catastrophic.
Mainstream news media are comfortable with “soft sciences”, leaving the numbers and “capitalism stuff” to the “numbers guys”.
Until Thai mainstream news media “get smart” on economics and financial reporting, Thai mainstream news audiences will remain at the mercy of the “unbridled power of big corporations” that Vint Chavala wrote about.
By the way, where does the UN stand on educating the general public about “capitalism”, which most workers and consumers around the world need to know about?
