Boutiques for the boys

Three leading menswear brands arrive at Emquartier

While it's true that the ladies are more than spoilt for choice at the newly opened EmQuartier shopping complex, men too get a look in, thanks to recent opening of Massimo Dutti, Ted Baker and Tommy Hilfiger boutiques.
Massimo Dutti, home to sophisticated urban wear with a hint of classic Spanish heritage, hosted an extravagant event recently to celebrate its new store and introduce its spring- summer 2015 collection. Boasting a clean colour palette and elaborately detailed cutting, the menswear comes in a light. breathable fabric that’s ideal for the Western summer and Bangkok’s humid heat.
“Massimo Dutti is suitable for both formal events and laid-back activities. I personally like the modern and stylish tones and patterns. I tend to favour beige, grey or plain black and white, as they are practical colours appropriate to every occasion,” businessman Dan Hetrakul told XP.
Designed with a panoramic window, amber spotlights and a contemporary decor, the new boutique keeps it elegant and simple, reflecting the style of the Massimo Dutti gentleman.
For its part, British luxury retailer Ted Baker transforms reality into a dreamland for both ladies and gentlemen. The menswear collection exudes fantasy and cheer through bold prints, unusual textures and a dreamy colour scheme.
The store too is stunning, boasting a hefty model of an old-fashioned camera, cornered accordion partitions, a ceiling imitating camera shapes and a tailored wallpapered panel at the back of the store showing London through the lens of a camera obscura.
Tommy Hilfiger, meanwhile, introduces his all- American “Heartland” menswear collection for spring-summer 2015 to the East. Inspired by Middle America, the line embraces the outdoors to the fullest, resulting in utility, maritime and military influences that combine well with the brand’s signature preppy twist.
The adventure begins in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, a popular holiday destination that inspires the first fashion group, Out on the Lake. The key aesthetic exudes the brand’s signature colour palette of red, white and blue accented by pops of dazzling blue and sunglow yellow. Influenced by the nautical lifestyle, stripes are featured throughout, from button-down shirts and sweaters to chinos and lightweight jackets with block stripes.
The brand heads south to Marfa, Texas for its Middle of the Desert line. Military styles heavily influence this fashion group, from jackets and shirts with epaulette details to over-badged cargo pants with knee patches. Key neutral tones are khaki, taupe olive and Lincoln olive with accents of neon coral adding an unexpected twist.
The final stop on Hilfiger’s road trip is Denver, Colorado, where the Gather at an Urban Farm line brings rural life to meet urban modernity. Styles exude big-city sophistication with a casual small-town twist. Tailored textured blazers can be paired with structured sweatpants, while dark denim teams effortlessly with lightweight nylon jackets. A sartorial aesthetic is further seen in bleached indigo polos, linen trousers, jerseys and garment-dyed t-shirts. The look is light, clean and chic.
