Banana Republic is the newest fashion kid on the block at EmQuartier

ONE OF THE most popular American fashion brands on today’s market and so loved by Thais that every visit to the US warrants bags full of goodies to bring home, Banana Republic has finally opened a store in Thailand, setting up shop at EmQuartier.
Founded in 1978 by Mel and Patricia Ziegler but now owned by Gap, the brand marked the store opening with a “Nice to meet you Bangkok” party and a showcase of the “On the Road” summer 2015 collection by Marissa Webb.
Honorary models included celebs Kanachai Bencharongkul, Jay Spencer, Onchuma and Chutima Durongdej and Sutikarn Wangcharoentaweekul with Popetorn Soonthornyanakij providing the music through a mini concert.
The spacious 450-square-metre store sparkles with a modern American vibe and is divided into two zones. The front is decorated in dark grey while the inner part boasts a classic theme with natural materials in earth tones.
The spring and summer 2015 collection is inspired by Webb’s travel and safari style, which was popular in the past and is still relevant today. A celebrated fashion designer, she spent time with Polo, Club Monaco and J Crew Group Inc before branching out on her own during 2011. She now juggles her time between serving as president of M Webb and as creative director of Banana Republic. The brand showed at New York Fashion Week for the first time last February.
The “On the Road” collection is highlighted by its main colours of olive green and sea blue. The fabrics include tie-dyed textiles and washed denim. Chino pants, army jackets, and the brand’s signature shirts are the stars. Stencilled patterns and new lace techniques are seen on dresses and skirts while an oversized silhouette is used in many items such as T-shirts, tunics and boyfriend pants. Black-and-white graphic prints, lettering, nature-themed graphics and stripes add fun to the basic pieces.
A sporty feel is also a part of this collection, with elastic waistbands, backpacks and duffel coats all featured. The must-have is a pair of sneakers, which complete the look and underline the brand’s cool and casual character.
