The article written by John D Ciorciari for YaleGlobal and published by The Nation is full of lies and false speculation. The writer accuses Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen of blocking the execution of arrest warrants issued by a UN-appointed judge. In response to this groundless accusation, I wish to offer genuine facts and clarifications.
Hun Sen has assured UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon many times during their meetings that the Cambodian government did not and will not interfere in the work of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (the Khmer Rouge Tribunal).
As a matter of fact, the ECCC judges have invited four suspects for questioning only – one for Case No 003 and three for Case No 004. So far, no arrest warrants have been issued for these people. I would request that Mr Ciorciari and The Nation check their facts before conducting any more such whispering campaigns.
