Who cares about debt? Not world leaders, that's for sure

Re: "If deflation is looming, why are prices still rising?", Letters, June 11.

The biggest concern about debt should be that the world’s so-called leaders apparently want everyone to pretend that debt can be ignored.
Japan and the US had the gall recently to weigh in on the Greek debt crisis – Japan with the world’s highest debt-to-GDP ratio and the US adding about a trillion dollars every year to its national debt.
In other words, Thai leaders are fighting an uphill battle simply to get the populace to understand the disastrous effects of too much debt. Poorly educated Thais want to “follow the leaders” into dangerous debt.

When are Japan and the US going to admit that the biggest threat to democracy and capitalism today is horrifying debt?
Every time I hear leaders discuss freedom of speech, I want to shout: “You already have the freedom of speech to tell the truth about debt!”
The so-called leaders are just not leading.
