Fallacious thinking

Re: "Cutting Thailand in two might not be a bad idea", Letters, June 11.

This topic seems hard to grasp for Westerners like letter writer David Brown. So let’s just say that, yes, Thais are afraid that digging the Kra Canal would split the country into a North and a South. Just like we believe a space mission to the sun should take place at night so the rocket wouldn’t get burned.
It’s the same reason we don’t allow foreigners to own land here because we fear we’ll lose our right of sovereignty. We are afraid that rich foreigners might buy up so much land that we Thais would have no place to live.
With the above fallacy and mentality, it’s no surprise the Irrigation Department recently held a sacrificial rite to beg Phra Phiroon, the God of Rain, for more rainfall since drought is imminent.
It worked just fine, only they gave Phra Phiroon the wrong coordinates and he nearly turned downtown Bangkok into water world.
