What happened to the war on corruption?

Re: "Poll likely in 2016 if referendum passed", Politics, June 15

The coup prompted by “corruption in government” took place over a year ago. I can count the number of political criminals convicted to date on my thumbs. A recent edict declared that politicians removed from office in 2006 can return to power unless they have been found guilty of corruption. Somebody has a wry sense of humour. How many senior politicians have been found guilty of corruption over the last 18 years? (I doubt you will need both hands to calculate the figure.)

The draft constitution would enshrine a voting system that forces a coalition of parties. The goings-on between 2001 and 2004 occurred when all but one party was in the coalition government. The 2006 crew was manned by coalition partners who had joined the Thai Rak Thai Party. So much for that idea!
On Page 2 of yesterday’s Nation we were told, “If the junta has to stay on, it must do better.” If the junta can make a corruption-free fist of it by August 2016, keep ’em rolling!
