Regarding the ongoing rhetoric of certain columnists and letter-writers in your newspaper lamenting the absence of "democracy" at present, one wonders if they are correct in apparently assuming that Abraham Lincoln's much-quoted definition of democracy in
Universally speaking, I would venture to suggest that rather than “government of the people, by the people, for the people”, a more factual description of the process that we witness today is “government of the people, by an elected, manipulating and self-serving dictator, for the benefit of an elected dictator and his (or her) entourage of wealthy, media-controlling and self-interested backers”.
