Since Vint Chavala’s letter was directed toward large, powerful countries like the one I come from, I feel free to respond. I disagree only with Vint’s projected outcome.
By their nature, powerful countries will always tend to dictate to the world and Thai governments will always be corrupt. I also believe that if, by some quirk of fate, Thailand became an economic and military powerhouse, it would become dictatorial.
You are proud of your country and there is much about Thailand worth being proud of. That is why I settled here. But, if you honestly believe the governments of the world are going to change, then you are thinking as a child, and that may be why some people treat you as such. Thailand might have begun to change if it had reformed its electoral process, but it didn’t.
Further, I would be willing to bet that, of all the “corrupt” officials being busted, not even one will go to jail. Neither will America or any other large world power stop meddling in other countries’ affairs.
There is the way it should be, and there is the way it is. You should try living with the way it is, but that is your decision.
