Trump challenging the status quo

Re: "A frightening glimpse of a possible future", Letters, August 13.

Letter-writer Egon refers to the “clownish Donald Trump”. Before dismissing Trump like this based on distorted historical remarks, taken completely out of context by journalists, it would be better to do some research. Trump wants controlled immigration. He wants a strong military as a deterrent, not for wars. He wants to put America to work, not China. He wants the leaders of the USA to make good deals internationally in the interest ofs their country. He wants war veterans to be shown respect when they return.
Trump has a very shrewd mind. His international accomplishments show this to be true. He knows exactly what he is doing by entering the political fray and he’s proving to be very successful because he understands people.
He is challenging the powers that be. He is fundamentally challenging the established system of American politics at its roots. Last century there were others who challenged the status quo by attempting to bring about fundamental change – John F Kennedy, his brother Robert F Kennedy and Martin Luther King.
Sinisterly, they all paid dearly with their lives. Trump will be well aware of the risk he is taking. He is a risk-taker.
Whether or not he takes the top job, he is stirring muddy waters with straight talking. Above all, his words are not filtered through political correctness. Perhaps Jefferson and Lincoln would be proud of him for that.
