Uber, the phone app that delivers taxis to whatever curbside you happen to be standing on, might be getting a little "uber the top" with its promise to have a sexy, young celebrity at the wheel of that cab.

But that’s what involved with the new UberCeleb app, ready to download now and going into use tomorrow.
Not only can you have a swell Mercedes-Benz pick you up, you could have actress-model Pitta na Patalung in the driver’s seat, or maybe heartthrob singer Two Popetorn.
The UberCeleb service has already been a tremendous success in New York, where the firm behind the smartphone application somehow managed to convince model Kate Upton and actors Neil Patrick Harris and Ashton Kutcher to pull a few shifts as cabbies for rent. More recently the idea has also proved popular in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur.
For your joyriding pleasure, Uber Bangkok has lined up Bie KPN, DJ Eakky, Jack Fan Chan and Sumonthip “Gudgib” Leungutai, along with Pitta and Two, to chauffeur its customers for one day only – tomorrow from 9am to 6pm. You can pile into their cabs with a friend or two and spend 30 minutes riding around town with the stars, being generally nosey while chatting them up and, of course, posing for a few snapshots and maybe a video clip too.
“UberCeleb is part of our ongoing effort to bring unique experiences to our riders,” says Uber spokesperson Karun Arya. “Earlier this year we took Bangkok to the skies with UberCopter and delivered Uber-flavoured ice cream to hungry riders all over the city. Now, with UberCeleb, we’re giving riders the chance to meet their favourite stars at the push of a button.”
So here’s what you do. You download the Uber app and register, specifying that you want the “UberCeleb” service. If your request is accepted, get ready for some superstar treatment of your own when a Very Famous Person picks you up in a shiny new Benz.
They’ll ride around downtown Bangkok with you and up to two companions. Selfies with the star in question are not only allowed but encouraged.
Mercedes-Benz is an official partner for UberCeleb, providing riders with a luxurious experience at affordable UberX prices. That’s right: You don’t need a loan from the bank to ride with the stars. Having a celebrity chauffeur you from Sathorn Road to Soi Thonglor, for example, it’s still only going to cost you the usual price, around Bt70.
Not only that, but if you’re new to Uber, there’s a way to do all this for free! Simply download the Uber app from the Google Play Store, Apple’s iOS Store or t.uber.com/uberceleb, where you’ll get an UberCelebTh promotional code. Enter that into the promotions menu and request an UberCeleb ride. Then wait for the lucky bell to ring. If you win a spot in the passenger seat and the meter doesn’t go over Bt300, the ride is free. (If it does, you just pay the difference.)
