Keep religion out of politics

Are American voters really as gullible and shallow as the questioners at the Republican presidential candidates' debates would lead us to believe?

It is discouraging that religion plays such a big role in US politics and that candidates use their religious beliefs in a bid to strengthen their position. But that is unlikely to change anytime soon. Fortunately such strategies usually backfire – as recently shown by Ben Carson’s comments about Muslims.
Now we have the Barrack Obama “birther” fiasco raising its head again, with Donald Trump again making a fool of himself. Have the candidates nothing of substance to discuss that might prove their worth as a potential president?
With such an uninspiring bunch of presidential hopefuls, thank goodness I am not an American. Unfortunately, whoever is ultimately elected, we will all be affected by their policies.
