Being new to the post, our ICT minister insists that this gateway will “not control access to information like in Communist countries”. Not so, excellency – the order is in perfect harmony with the clampdown on pesky media that reveal inconvenient truths. Reporters are getting “invited” by the military for “attitude adjustment”, record numbers of lese majeste cases are being filed and students are being summoned by the authorities for reading Orwell’s “1984” while eating sandwiches.
Now we know why the junta is cosying up to such bastions of freedom of expression and the press as North Korea and China.
