A 'Twentysecond' wardrobe makeover
Blokes can find everything from sharp suits to wild boxers at this Siam Square boutique
SISTERS CHANYA and Phatthanan Suphaksith didn’t know much about tailoring when they started their own clothing brand, but sheer passion and a keen eye for trends have made Twentysecond a success.
Chanya studied business administration Chulalongkorn University and Phatthanan took marketing at Assumption, so while they toiled in someone else’s offices after graduation, they were always dreaming of having a business of their own.
The sisters opened a boutique five years ago in the Suan Lum Night Bazaar, selling simple but smart shirts that were easily paired with jeans and shorts. The response was amazing, to the point where they could open branches at Chatuchak Weekend Market and Siam Square.
The Siam Square outlet has since become their “headquarters” and specialises in cool, well-cut apparel and accessories for men.
“We make clothes that are easy to throw on and have a tailoring shop do the customising,” says Phatthanan. “When we opened our first boutique we were looking for the shapes that best fit the Thai physique. We keep the style minimalist – smart but simple and playful, with lots of detailing. Most
of the stuff is in pastel shades, using top-quality fabric.”
The materials include chambray, 100-per-cent cotton and denim imported from Japan.
Popular with customers in need of a more formal look are the straight slacks in white, navy blue, grey and black, and pastel oxford shirts with tartan collars.
Also selling well are two-tone chambray shirts, polo shirts, slim-fit trousers and shorts, all ideal for parties or the beach. The custom-made suits of wool and cotton range in price from Bt3,500 to Bt3,900.
Boxer shorts carry jazzy graphics, as do bow ties and neckties in different sizes, and there are lots of genuine-leather belts to choose from.
Twentysecond carries Daniel Wellington detachable-strap wristwatches from Britain, too, along with name-card folders, wallets, bracelets and key rings by Sew and Needle, canvas beach bags from Brooks Brothers and gaily printed hats created by Phatthanan’s designer friends.
