Kindness is all around, except for cynics

Re: "Faith restored on a muddy riverbank", Editorial, October 22.

I found Wednesday’s editorial rather pessimistic and also indicative of how journalists can influence public opinion. “Noble acts”, big and small, happen every day throughout the world, always have and always will. Just because most are not recorded by a journalist or mentioned in a newspaper does not mean they do not happen.
It’s about time some journalists came down from their pedestals and saw the real world. And, as to the merely trivial getting attention, let us not forget that a big chunk of the media thrives on this, including sometimes The Nation. The excuse for this kind of reporting is that it sells. I call that hypocrisy.
