CHILDREN ARE A source of great inspiration and their amusing actions and comments make for terrific stories. Proof can be found in the books of Yayee Publishing, the brainchild of editor Panida Iemsirinoppakul and illustrator and graphic designer Nitta Prabhasabhakdi, which are often centred on a sweet little girl – Chuenjai, the daughter of Panida and musician Trai Bhumiratna.
Launched last year, Yayee has been warmly welcomed by parents and little readers alike. It recently hosted an event dubbed “Yayee for My Loved Ones” at It’s Happened to be a Closet on Sukhumvit 23 to introduce two new books.
Socialite Pitipat Sarasin and actress Pornthip Skidjai have collaborated for the first time on “My First Meals”, which is based on their experiences of raising their sons DD and Pooh. “Travel around the Kid”, meanwhile, recounts journeys made by Panida, Trai, and their daughter Chuenjai.
“With Nitta’s help, I wrote the first six books and they were well-received by parents looking for beautiful books that are enjoyable while also educational in terms of imparting good lessons to their children. The two new books we’re launching today will also appeal to parents, as they offer fun stories based on other families’ experiences,” Panida says.
“My First Meals” is a collection of healthy dishes and tips that encourage sound eating habits in children. The menus are for children under two years old, and are what the two mothers cook for their own children. The dishes have been shared on social media with the hashtags #dddish and #poohdish. Dads also get to help create these fun dishes. The book covers the method for preparing them, tips for handling picky eaters, food for each age, the right weight, nutrition, and how to create a fun mealtime. The dishes cooked by the mother are not only nutritious but also a gift of love, making the child feel happy and warm and helping his or her development.
“Travel around the Kid” is a travel guide for families based on more than 15 trips taken by the family since Chuenjai was three months old, starting from Japan and continuing with other destinations including Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, Hong Kong, Germany, and France. The book talks about their experiences and encourages parents to take their children abroad to broaden their minds. Pictures from those trips are also included along with memories from various cities and countries.
Other Yayee books include “Thai Alphabet book and poster”, “My A-Z”, “We are Family”, and the “Tid Nueb” sticker book series which features “Steve in the Forest with Monkey”, “Go to the Market”, and “What Should We Eat”. All teach youngsters about the world and help them with their reading. The books are even ecofriendly, printed with safe soy ink.
Since parents are the first teachers, spending time reading with children is vital to helping the young ones develop their cognitive senses.
“I believe that playing is learning, so in addition to the beautiful pictures which make the children enjoy reading, we also want to encourage interaction within the family. Love is the most important tool for enhancing a child’s capacity. In every book and product, we have added elements that encourage the parents to spend time playing and reading with their children,” Panida says.
- “My First Meals” and “Travel around the Kid” are available from Booth J10 at the 20th Book Expo, which continues at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre |through Sunday.
