Ups and downs of the global warming debate

Re: "Climate negotiators piece together planet-saving mechanism", Opinion, October 29.

The article states that “The planet has already warmed by 0.8 degrees C, leaving very little room for dawdling.” What it fails to mention is that all this warming has occurred since 1880, according to both Nasa and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and that there has been a “warming pause” since 1997. It also fails to mention that the rate of warming and cooling in the 1,000 years prior to 1880 had been higher than that. The e-mails exposed in the so-called “Climate-gate” scandal revealed that IPCC scientists tried to mask the higher warming in the last millennium by cherry-picking ice-core samples used to determine historic temperatures. By combining a particular selection, they were able to get an average rate of only 0.5C so that they could claim in the IPCC report that 0.8C was “abnormal”.
Then there’s the issue of whether the warming even exists. If you go to co2science.org you can plot your own USHCN station charts.  Many if not most show cooling, the ones that show warming are mostly in areas that have experience urbanisation.  Half the radiosonde shows cooling in the past 40 years, as does satellite data.  The NOAA has been accused of tampering with data and they are currently refusing yet another House science committee subpoena, again illustrating that they show a bias for making graphs look warm.  Meanwhile the British Met office proclaims that global warming is set to resume so expect colder winters.  Antarctic ice broke the record in 2013 and then broke that record in 2014 while Arctic ice was at its lowest a few years before that.  When pouring over climate facts and data one can only conclude that it is huge body of meaningless nonsense, and if there was something really wrong with our planet’s greenhouse mechanism, this planet would have already turned into Mars.  To be fair here are the arguments: skepticalscience.com for the Anthropogenic Global Warming argument. wattsupwiththat.com for the sceptics and stevengoddard shows how the NOAA changes it’s charts like a dog changes its flea collars.
