Parents could ensure new class-time policy succeeds

Re: "Reduced class times face a rigorous test", Editorial, November 4.

The policy reducing classroom time has been initiated before most schools are ready to provide extracurricular learning activities, due to lack of staff, facilities or both.
They face the challenge of designing and managing these activities despite limited resources.
No parents will complain if the policy results in students who can do more housework (in place of homework), do well in sports and become healthier (rather than couch potatoes), have music in their hearts, concentrate better, and are more interested in their social and natural environment.
To help the policy succeed, parents should offer their support and cooperation, perhaps by sharing their personal experience earned in various professions.
It might be a good way to offset the schools’ lack of readiness to administer the programme and help them “pass the test”.
