HARDWOOD FURNITURE is enjoying a renaissance, and Abode – a multi-level store just off Sathorn Road – has some outstanding samples, classic and contemporary pieces for every room.
The East-meets-West aesthetic in teak and mahogany stems from European design and Javanese craftsmanship, with many components recycled from old furniture and house timbers or ordered from sustainable-growth plantations.
Italian and Dutch designers conceive the look and the furniture is built in Indonesia, using a blend of traditional artisan methods and modern treatments such as computerised kiln-drying, which minimises warping and cracking. The pieces are then meticulously finished by hand – sanded and then coated with a chemical- and toxin-free lacquer derived from tree sap to bring out the texture.
A store where you’re encouraged to sit on the sofas and chairs and even lay on the beds has got to be trustworthy. The staff wants you to feel relaxed so you can imagine at leisure how a given piece will look in your own home.
Also available is a wide range of accessories, including baskets, floor mats, mirrors, table and floor lamps, vases, picture frames and candle holders.
