It's not just the animals that are suffering

When it comes to sucking up and polluting natural resources, the worst meat is beef. As such, beef-eating should be consigned to the dustbin of history. Next most damaging to the ecosystem is pork.

Indeed, both these meats are also bad for human health, while their production causes unnecessary suffering for the animals themselves.
Take a look at modern pig-breeding, for example. If you’re not disgusted, then you’ve got no compassion. In case you don’t know, a sow is put in a tight-fitting cage that forces her to spend her entire miserable life lying on one side, serving as only a milk source for piglets. Enfeebled in this way, she couldn’t stand even if allowed to. Now, multiply that sow by tens of thousands, and you get an inkling of the scale of suffering involved in providing resource-sucking, environment-polluting meat for our distended bellies.
