Slight against WWII-era Siam was imagined

Re: "Some Britons have axe to grind over Siam's WWII role", Letters, December 1.

Khun Songdej seems to have great difficulty accepting the fact that it is unacceptable to attribute words, emotions and thoughts to people they did not write or express. Now he writes, “Yet what he did not say related to what he said.” What on earth is that supposed to mean?
I guess one implication could be that, while I did not write it, I hold the belief that Thailand was partly responsible for the fall of Singapore.
No, Khun Songdej, I do not belong to the group of people who hold that belief.
If you must know, I believe the primary cause of the fall of Singapore was the arrogant belief that the British Empire was unassailable and that Singapore was impregnable.
