Rich leaders care nothing for the common man

Who are the leaders of China and Thailand to be shaking hands and smiling over another big-money agreement? One was voted in by a politburo, the other is self-appointed.

Both are rich. Neither asks the opinions of regular people. If they sought opinions on the big-ticket deals or anything else, it was from their inner circle of rich men like themselves. People like that are primarily concerned with amassing money.  Everything else is secondary, except tightening their grip on power and their ability to amass money.
There are other topics more important than amassing money: healthy first-generation forests, healthy and clean oceans, clean air and clean water for cities and towns, preserving species from extinction, a better standard of living for all strata of people. All the high-level meetings and planning involving big amounts of money are only aimed at making the rich richer. Sure, publicly, they can talk the good talk if some uppity reporter asks, “What are you doing to clean up the environment?” But, privately, their priority is amassing money.
